Chamber events are great for networking, as one local “cowboy” Ron Gann found out recently.

Gann is a retired postal worker, who is now a freelance photographer, poet, and author of a self-published book of photos and western poems entitled “Cowboy & Western.” Although not a cowboy himself, he claims a long family history of involvement with Texas and ranching. He is a Galena Park native.

At the Chamber Gala last month, he was able to talk with TV personality Debra Duncan about his book, and she asked him to appear on her Channel 11 TV show, “Great Day Houston.” Since the Houston Rodeo was about to start, she wanted a western theme, and Ron’s work fit. He appeared on her show of Wednesday, Feb. 26 and was able to read three of his poems during the hour- long show. He also brought along his favorite photo prop, an old horse-watering trough he uses as a bathtub in his studio. He promoted his book, too, which you can buy.
