100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF SHIP CHANNEL

Centennial celebration is a Family Festival

An outdoor family festival will take place this Saturday, September 6, 2014 to highlight the 100th anniversary of the official opening of the deepwater channel. The festival is to honor the East Side and surrounding ship channel communities. The hands-on celebration will feature special maritime exhibits, interactive elements, hands-on demonstrations and art and entertainment provided by local schools and community organizations.

Educational activities and attractions will range from tours of the M/V Sam Houston, the Port Authority’s tour boat, to a tug boat tug-of-war.

Additionally, toy sailboat games, face painting, treasure hunts and a variety of food will be featured. An interactive antique fire boat also will be on hand.

The Centennial Family Festival is free and open to the community, but attendees must pre-register to obtain tickets, which will include a pre-determined time slot for arrival. The festival will be held at the Bayport Cruise Terminal located at 4700 Cruise Road in Pasadena from 2 pm to 6 pm.To register go to: http://promotehoustonshipchannel2014.org/
