HOUSTON FIREMEN from Stations 42 and 18 attempt to rescue a maintenance worker, dangling from a safety line. The scene was under the Ship Channel bridge on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The man was inspecting the underside of the bridge, when he slipped off a catwalk and was left dangling by his safety harness. Unable to reach him by ladder, as seen in this photo, they eventually stopped traffic on the roadway above, and used a pulley lowered through a manhole in the pavement to reach him and pull him to safety. The rescue took about an hour, and the worker was said to be uninjured but scared.
