District will host community-wide Veterans Day ceremony

The Channelview Independent School District will salute those who served in a community-wide Veterans Day ceremony at 6 p.m., Wednesday Nov. 5 at the Bill Neal Center.

Local veterans and all members of the public are welcome to attend the event. The Bill Neal Center is located at 828 Sheldon Road, next door to the Joyce Hendrix Educational Support Center.

The ceremonies will begin with a “Walk of Honor.” Veterans who wish to participate in the special opening event should arrive early. Cadets with the Channelview High School JROTC, the Alice Johnson Junior High LOTC and the Anthony Aguirre Junior High LOTC will lead the event.

Teachers serve as judges for Eastside Veterans shoebox art contest

Cobb Elementary art teacher Lindsey White and Hamblen Elementary’s Ben Storch served as judges for the Eastside Veterans Celebration’s Military Shoebox Float project in Crosby. Students from Drew Intermediate School in Crosby competed in the contest. The winner of the event was scheduled to be announced at the Eastside Veterans Celebration at Cougar Stadium on Nov. 6.

Retired Channelview teacher and veteran Cedric Patterson is one of the coordinators of the shoebox contest. All winning entries will be showcased at the Crosby American Legion Post No. 658 on Nov. The top 60 entries receive a certificate and a gift bag. Contest winners will receive special prizes and be invited to an awards reception at the Crosby American Legion Hall.

Special Services Parent Meeting

Channelview ISD Special Services will hold a RTI/504/Dyslexia Advisory Meeting from 4-5 p.m., Nov. 4 at the Joyce Hendrix Educational Support Center, 828 Sheldon Road. All parents are invited to attend and learn more about this program.

ICB to host Empowerment 2K Run at CISD Athletic Complex

The North Channel chapter of the International Community Builders will hold its Empowerment 2K Run at 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 8 the Channelview ISD Athletic Complex, 828 Sheldon Road.

PhysiciansER is the sponsor for the event, covering entry fees for all youth participants ages 6-12. Students will need to fill out an entry form at their campus to participate. Go to www.communitybuilders.me for more information.

McMullan Elementary events

McMullan Elementary will hold its Muffins for Mom event from 10-11 a.m. on Nov. 5. The school’s second graders will present their Patriotic Program at 9:30-10 a.m. and 6:30-7 p.m. on Nov. 6. The public is invited.
