Neighborhoods throughout the North Channel area, and greater Houston, observed National Night Out on Tuesday evening, an annual event to promote public safety and community involvement.”

In Galena Park, city councilmen Juan Flores and Cruz Hinojosa led the event, with a gathering at the Shafaii parking lot on Holland Avenue. Present were firemen, police, and EMS with their equipment, LULAC, and many other organizations. Music, food, games, moonwalk, raffles, and friendship were abundant, with over 200 hot dogs served to the crowd.

In Jacinto City, the main event was held at City Hall on Mercury, with councilmen and Mayor Diaz hosting. Crowds consumed the food, played games, and had a good time. Also elsewhere in the city, neighborhoods held their own parties. At least eleven sites were listed on an official handout, including the home of City Manager Lon Squyres, Councilman Allan Lee, the Library, Second Baptist Church, Munn Street Baptist Church, Big Bass Resort, and Jacinto Palms Apartments, to name only a few.

Rep. Ana Hernandez released the following statement for National Night Out: “Since 1984, National Night Out has helped build relationships between communities and the law enforcement agencies that serve them,” Hernandez said.

“Policing and public safety are community-wide efforts. I hope that this year’s National Night Out helps to strengthen ties between families, first-responders, and community institutions as we work together to build a crime-free environment for our children.”
