Jacinto City, TX – May 25, 2017 — At the Jacinto City Council meeting Galena Park High School graduate and U. S. Presidential Scholar Salvador Flores, Jr. receives recognition award.

Keep Jacinto City Clean Committee presented Salvador for his relentless effort to succeed in reaching his goal to receive a college scholarship.

Using a borrowed musical saxophone young Salvador began his music career in middle school by tirelessly practicing daily after middle school. He continued his practicing throughout high school and playing in the school band.

With limited funds Flores made a solo musical video and sent it to the National Young Arts Foundation where it would be reviewed and evaluated for possible entry in the U. S. Presidential Scholar’s Foundation.

The Presidential Scholars Foundation is independent from the White House Commission on U.S. Presidential Scholars and the U.S. Department of Education, so it relies on citizen’s donations.

His video was selected by the Young Arts Foundation, which qualified him to compete to be a Presidential Scholar in Miami, Florida with 700 other students throughout the nation. After his solo performance and extensive interviews he was selected as one of the nation’s, 161 students.

He’s now received partial scholarships of $65,000 from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he’ll further his musical career and study under world renowned Timothy McAllister.

Salvador has a GO FUND ME account anyone can donate to at: https://www.gofundme.com/mycollege-and-interlochenfund.
