Former JC Little League President arrested

JACINTO CITY – Tuesday, February 6, 2018 Jacinto City police arrested Christopher Vasquez the former Jacinto City Little League president and charged him with felony theft of baseball league funds.

Police said the new league’s officials had tried to get the money from Vasquez for months by sending him letters, so after hearing nothing they decided to file a police report.

Vasquez was surprised by police at Hobby Airport as they took him into custody moments after he arrived on a flight from California.

Chief Joe Ayala said Vasquez is accused of cashing a check in September of last year for almost $17,000 that was supposed to fund new scoreboards. The check from Coca-Cola to the league was endorsed by Vasquez and cashed but never deposited into the league’s bank account according to records.

A recent inventory taken by the league indicates there’s possibly missing equipment, sponsorship money and unauthorized purchases made after Vasquez became president.

In a TV interview, Vasquez said he is innocent, and still has the money in a cashier’s check for the Little League.

Vasquez is currently on probation for a criminal mischief charge. Court records show the former president stole turf from a business along Tomball Parkway in 2016.
