On Saturday, December 15, 2018, at NRG Stadium, the North Shore Mustangs romped on the Lake Travis Cavaliers, bringing the Mustangs within one game of a state championship title. The 51 to 10 lopsided score put into Lake Travis’s football history as the worst playoff defeat ever.
The super-charged Mustangs came out on the field and waged a relentless four quarter assault of rough and tumble football on both offense and defense. After dominating the Cavaliers for three quarters with his starters, Coach Jon Kay began substituting his talented backup players into the game, who continued the domination.
The Mustang offense was hitting on all cylinders as running back Zach Evans ran for 196 yards and four touchdowns, while sophomore quarterback Dematrius Davis gave them plenty of balance with 231 passing yards for two scores.
The galloping Mustang offense made 7 touchdowns (TD’s), Zach Evans ran for 4 TD’s, John Gentry ran for 1 TD, quarterback Dematrius Davis passed to Zorhan Rideaux for 2 TD’s and John Villa lobos kicked a field goal. They garnered 557 total yards and 28 first downs. The Cavaliers only got half as much, with 268 yards and 14 first downs.
At the end of the game many of the fans cheered the players with the continuous chant, “EAST SIDE BOYS SHOW’D UP.” Fans have tagged the team “East Side Boys” for several years.
Kay’s 15 – 0 undefeated Mustangs head to Dallas to play the undefeated 14 – 0 Duncanville Panthers. These two will battle it out at 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 22nd, at the AT&T Cowboys Stadium, with the UIL 6A Division I state title on the line.
