PLAYOFF GAME NORTHSHORE vs KATY on Nov. 30

By Allan Jamail

On Friday, November 23, 2018, at 1 PM at the Galena Park ISD football stadium, the North Shore Mustangs took the bite out of the Dickinson Gators, eliminating them from the state football playoffs 65 to 21.

Mustang Coach Jon Kay’s offense and defense played like a team hungry for another State Championship title.

Kay’s offense compiled 549 yards for 9 touchdowns, completing 7 of 13 passes for 144 yards and running 38 times for 405 yards.

The Gators posted stadium signs reading, “Gators Chomp on Mustangs” but as it ended up the Gators appeared toothless and no match for the high level of playing the Mustangs repeat weekly.

Two pass interceptions for North Shore kept the Gators scoreless in the last two quarters. Senior defensive tackle Jordan Revels intercepted a Gator pass and ran 55 yards for a touchdown. Another pass interception by junior defensive back Upton Stout stopped another offensive drive.

Mustangs Special Teams junior kicker John Villalobos game after game is flawless making 8 extra points and a 42 yard field goal.

North Shore’s nine touchdowns were made by Dematrius Davis (2) Zach Evans, John Gentry (3), Chance Pillar, Jordan Revels and Ismael Villafuerte.

The Mustangs have their biggest test of the season Friday, November 30th at 7 PM at Houston’s NRG Stadium when they’ll face off for the third time in less than a year against 8-time state champion’s Katy Tigers.

North Shore spoiled the Tigers opening season game, giving them their first ever loss in the new 72 million dollar stadium three months ago. After the 35 to 21 loss Katy quarterback Bronson McClelland acknowledged the tough loss but seemed confident the Tigers will be 2018 state champions and beat North Shore in the playoffs.

They will take on the Katy Tigers on Friday, November 30 at NRG Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.

Presale tickets, which are $6 for students and $11 for adults, are available at the GPISD Athletic Office on Thursday, November 29 from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Friday, November 30 from 7:00 a.m. – 3 p.m. All tickets at the gate will be $15. Parking at NRG will be $12 and is cash ONLY.

Go Mustangs!
