Houston, TX. ~ Thursday, September 3, 2026 at the GPISD stadium the Galena Park Yellow Jackets defeated the Fort Bend Kempner Cougars 16~9 in front of their home-field crowd.
Neither team was able to score in the first quarter’s 12 minutes. The teams remained scoreless through the first quarter, with both defenses limiting scoring opportunities until halfway into the 2nd quarter when the Jackets’ junior running back Jamile Hurks leaped over a defender to score the game’s first touchdown (TD).
The extra point kick attempt was blocked, the Cougar ran it back the length of field to score a two-point-conversion making the score Jackets 6, Cougars 2 when the first half ended.
Midway into the 3rd quarter the Jacket’s was near the end zone but was unable to get a touchdown, they settled for a 3 point field-goal, keeping them ahead 9 to 2 as the quarter ended.
The defensive battle continued into the 4th quarter until Jacket’s junior quarterback Jacob Muro connected on a 27 yard TD pass to the wide open sophomore receiver Ayden Felder; sophomore kicker Ezra Rodriquez’s kick was good making the score 16 – 2.
The Cougars responded with a TD, cutting the Jackets’ lead to 7 and making the final minutes competitive. Yellow Jacket’s Head Coach Spiro Amarantos’ tough defense tightened up giving the Yellow Jackets the 16–9 win.
GP’s passing and running game helped create opportunities for the Yellow Jackets’ offense.
Galena Park was called for 7 penalties giving up 65 yards, three for 15 yds each (2 personal fouls). The Linda Jamail statistician.
Galena Parks’ next game will be a home nondistrict game against Kingwood Park’s Panthers, both teams are 1 – 1.
