The Galena Park Independent School District (GPISD) announced for the 2019/2020 school year David Pierson to head the 9th grade Freshman Class.

Principal Pierson is no newcomer to GPISD; he began his career 31 years ago. He began as an elementary fifth grade teacher at Jacinto City Elementary. From there, Mr. Pierson taught math at W.C. Cunningham Middle School and took on a new challenge by coaching basketball, football, and track. He became the head coach at Cunningham where they won numerous district championships.

After 10 years at Cunningham, he moved on to teach and coach at North Shore High School. Mr. Pierson continued serving North Shore High School by becoming an assistant principal for four years and then associate principal for three years at the Ninth Grade Center.

Pierson had the honor of going back to his roots of elementary and became principal of Normandy Crossing Elementary (NCE) in 2011. There he created a culture of high expectations and celebrating students during his three years at NCE. His success was so grand that he was given another challenge – to return to Cunningham Middle School as the Principal in 2014. In 2017 he was the Secondary Principal of the year.

“Cunningham Middle School holds a very special place in my heart because of the great success my students had in the classroom, on the field, on the court, and on the track,” Pierson said.

In 2017, Mr. Pierson was named Principal of North Shore Ninth Grade Center. He says it’s an honor to serve as the principal of a place where so many years he called home. He truly believes North Shore is the home of the champions. In 2019 he was named Secondary Principal of the year. He is so thankful for all the support he has had throughout his years as a teacher, coach and administrator.

Pierson graduated high school at Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena, he got a Bachelor of Arts degree in Teaching from Sam Houston State University and then got a Master of Science Degree from University of Houston – Clear Lake.
