August 28, 2026 ~ Houston, TX. GPISD Stadium ~ The UIL 17- 6A defending state champion North Shore Mustangs had an easy warmup game against the 5A Lancaster Tigers. They’re a suburban community located in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex about 3 hours away from Houston with a student enrollment of 2,100+ compared to the Mustangs 4,100+.
Dave Campbell’s 6A Texas Football Rating System predicts North Shore second in the state behind Waxahachie and C. E. King with a 3rd state ranking prediction.
Keeping par as in previous seasons the Mustangs known for excessive penalties racked up 8 costly penalties four for 15 yards, totaling 60 yards given away with penalties.
Willie Gaston, Mustangs head coach using preseason non-district games shifted players in and out of the game in order to evaluate their performance to help him determine his starters.
This year’s offense and defensive line looks lighter in weight as previous seasons, this could make them faster off the snap but will that effect their stopping and blocking ability?

The Mustangs travel to Lafayette, La. to play John Curtis Christian Patriots, Louisiana’s ranked #4 in the state in a pre-season non-district game, Friday, Sept. 4th @ 7pm.
