Galena Park, TX. ~ August 5, 2026 at Harris County’s Branch Library in Galena Park Branch Manager Sisi Medina and staff provided residents with the opportunity to meet the new mayor Oscar Mireles in an informal setting and to have a guided tour of the library.
Ms. Medina opened the meeting and introduced Mayor Oscar Mireles and said, “We were honored to welcome the Mayor and City officials to our library for a special visit celebrating the new administration. It was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with the Mayor, share the many programs, services, and resources we provide, and highlight the positive impact the library has on residents of all ages”
“We were especially encouraged by the Mayor’s enthusiasm and his expressed interest in working with us to better serve the community. His support and willingness to collaborate reaffirm the value of the library as a community partner, and we are excited about the opportunities ahead. We look forward to building a strong partnership with the Mayor and the City as we continue to inspire learning, connect people, and enrich lives, Medina concluded.
Mayor Oscar Mireles said, “It is very exciting to learn about all of the services that the library provides to our residents, and inspirational to see how dedicated the staff are to making knowledge accessible to everyone. We look forward to collaborating with them as an administration, to give everyone in Galena Park resources to help them thrive.”
Medina presented a thorough PowerPoint presentation of what the library has to offer residents in the area. She also introduced the staff with each one of their field of expertise and responsibilities.
These member of Commissioner Adrian Garcia’s office were present, Alexandra Cuellar, Public Affairs Executive Specialist, Mercedes Sanchez, Executive Director of Community & Government Affairs and Myriam Saldivar, Community Relations Liaison. They introduced themselves to the attendees before and after the meeting while enjoying the snacks and refreshments the library provided.
Besides the mayor’s presence other Galena Park city officials present to greet the community’s guests were; Commissioners Martha Cantu- Perez & Juan Flores, Fire Chief Tom Ehlers, Police Chief Jason Adams and Alejandra Flores with the office of the mayor.
Mayor Mireles and guests took a tour of the library and were given a brief explanation of the different services the library provides.
My parents moved to Galena Park after my birth in Galveston in 1944 later I used the Galena Park Libraries at school and Harris County’s, it gave me a genuine appreciation for their helping millions like me acquire a better education.
