JACINTO CITY – Everyone likes a good joke, unless its on you. That was the situation at the Roast & Toast for Constable Chris Diaz, and wife and Mayor Ana Diaz, held last Thursday night at the JC Town Center.
The 14th Annual Roast N Toast was sponsored by LULAC Council #4703, with President Cruz Hinojosa, Jr. and VP Paul Rodriguez as hosts.
Of course, Chris and Ana were gracious while they were “Roasted” by a series of their friends and associates, and then “toasted” for their good humor through it all, and their service to their communities.
The program introductions were made by Mistress of Ceremonies Sharron Melton, broadcaster with Channel 13.
Speaking about the honored guests were Joe Stephens, Galena Park ISD board member; Dr. Angi Williams, GPISD superintendent; Ana Hernandez, State Representative District 143; and Mary Ana Perez, State Representative District 144.
The Roaster and Toasters showed no mercy as they recalled incidents from the Diaz’ past that were embarassing and funny at the same time.
And when there weren’t enough laughs or mishaps, Joe Stephens stepped in with a video that purported to be from Chris’ past, but the flops and flubs were mostly fiction and hilarious, too.
Music for the evening was provided by the GPHS Mariachi A Las De Oro. The event was actually a fund raiser for LULAC scholarships, which have reached over $70,000 total over the years.
